    Selk Bag Original review
By Jo Moseley www.jomoseley.comBut Ive also wondered, is it really that useful or just a gimmick? So when wholesale stockists Whitby and Co of Kendal invited me to try one, I jumped at the chance to see for myself.First of all, what is a Selk Bag? Essentially, its a sleeping bag that you can also wear, complete with legs, booties, arms, and a hood. Its like a onesie or sleepsuit but much warmer. Originating from Chile, the Selk Bag was designed for camping, sleeping and enjoying life by the campfire with the warmth of a sleeping bag but with the ability to move around.post-consumer recycled materials, including 23 plastic water bottles, the Original Maipo Burgundy I was invited to review is also a thing of beauty. The colour and fabric are gorgeous, and it feels great on. Its machine washable, and the comfort rating is 44F or 6C. The limit is 35F and 2C. Its made of a water-repellent and stain-resistant fabric. The SWYTCH design marks a significant change from previous styles, and for some, a very important one. It has a zip across the middle, making it a two-piece jacket and trouser set. On a practical basis, this means its super easy to go to the loo or simply use it as a jacket when you dont need the warmth of the whole suit moving around. Whilst enjoying a tasty breakfast or evening walk before bed on a campsite, the jacket alone has been really useful and cosy.I have always been someone who feels the cold, and a good or bad nights sleep has a profound impact on my wellbeing, energy and mood the next day. So sleeping in it in my van, Summer was the real test. Would I be warm or sweaty, cosy or confined? Im pleased to say it was a success. I had a great nights sleep! I didnt use the booties, which can also be zipped on and off. This is partly due to personal sleeping preference and partly the nature of the Selk Bag sizing, which Ill mention later, and is something you do need to take into consideration when ordering. The top has a handy kangaroo pocket, a balaclava, an adjustable hood, an elastic waist pull (I believe the technical term is cinch), and hand covers. The legs have vents for extra room. You can wear the legs on their own for extra warmth in a tent, while sitting in a van, or in a camp chair. However, the designs nature means they wont stay up without the top attached. The other feature to consider is the booties, which can be zipped on and off. If Im honest, Im not sure I would wear these outside regularly I could see them getting very dirty and perhaps snagging if Im in a wood or by a rocky beach. However, for extra warmth when sleeping or if youre looking for something to wear whilst WFH indoors in the chillier months, they would be great. My preference when out and about is to ditch the booties and opt for a pair of trainers, boots, or even sliders/slippers for a walk or pottering around the van.Bag is unisex and comes in S, M, L, and XL. There is a helpful guide, which I recommend you take advantage of. I wanted it slightly snugger, so I chose the M as this is recommended for anyone up to 5 ft 5 ins for active wear, but without the booties zipped in.So whats my verdict now? Is it a gimmick or something that will be really useful?Id say its the real thing, and I will be wearing it for post-swim and post-SUP adventures, around the campfire, and on the campsite, as well as being cosy for camping and sleeping in the van. It looks and feels great, and as the nights draw in, I can see myself really making the most of it. Why not give it a go yourself?Price: 129.99https://www.selkbag.co.uk/products/swytch-original-maipo-burgundy-sleeping-bag-suit

    MARCILIO BROWNE: RELENTLESS PURSUIT!
MARCILIO BROWNE: RELENTLESS PURSUIT!MARCILIO BROWNE: RELENTLESS PURSUIT!Marcilio Browne came agonizingly close to claiming his fourth consecutive PWA Wave World Title at the 2024 Aloha Classic, only to see the crown slip away after Marc Pars inspired late-season charge. Despite finishing second overall, Brownes season was nothing short of phenomenalwith standout victories in Japan, Chile and Maui, plus strong results throughout the year that reaffirmed his status as one of the most complete and consistent riders on tour. We caught up with Marcilio to find out the near misses and what keep him motivated after more than a decade at the very top of wave sailing.Photos: Fish Bowl Diaries / World Wave Tour / PWA John Carter / World Wave Tour / PWAHOOKIPA HEART BREAKWINDSURF: You came so close to winning four world titles in a rowhow much of a disappointment was it coming third in Maui at the end of the season and second overall on the world tour?MARCILIO BROWNE: It was a bit painful for the first few days for sure! It hurts getting that close and not winning the title again, but as time passed by and then being able to reflect more, I am really stoked with the year and my performance when I think about it now.WINDSURF: That Aloha final was so stackedhow did it play out and how tough was it to find the right waves to get the scores you knew you needed?MARCILIO BROWNE: Yes, the Aloha is always a hard one having so many good local riders, but that is what makes it exciting. And yes, with Hookipa you have to go for it, but there is always a bit of luck on which waves you catch also At the end of the day, Hookipa also has to choose you!WINDSURF: Did you speak to Marc after the final?MARCILIO BROWNE: Yes, I went to him straight after and congratulated him on his amazing win!WINDSURF: Did you enjoy the excitement of the event going down to the wire or did you find it stressful?MARCILIO BROWNE: Both, I really enjoyed the intensity of it! Those feeling are what we live for as competitors, that is part of the whole fun But I would be lying if I said it was not a bit stressful! But these days I can kind of enjoy those feelings in a way. That is what makes the wins so special, that adrenaline, stress and the feeling of it all go away when you do win.WINDSURF: What gear were you riding in Maui during the contest?MARCILIO BROWNE: I was pretty much only riding with the Goya Banzai 4.7m with 86L and a 5.0m with 88L both quads.Goya Windsurfing Boards Custom Quad 8 Pro CarbonSAVAGE SYLTWINDSURF: Back to Syltwhat were you thinking on the extra finals day when the storm hitdid you even want to sail in those conditions?MARCILIO BROWNE: I was ready to compete, it was not conditions I would personally go after for fun but competing in gnarly onshore is a part of it, and we got to be able to perform on those days too, no excuses!WINDSURF: Your semi was pretty stacked with Koster and Pare in the same heat how tough was it competing in bolt onshore conditions against such strong opponents?MARCILIO BROWNE: It is what it is, if you want to win you got to beat the best period. I was not thinking of who I was against, I was just trying to pick the right gear and making a strategy for the heat and to get past the shore break.WINDSURF: What gear did you ride in Sylt in that heat?MARCILIO BROWNE: I was on a 5.0m with 99L Goya Nitro. That worked great but it was difficult sailing in dead onshoreGoya Windsurfing Boards Nitro 2 Pro CarbonWINDSURF: How was it adjusting from Sylt to Maui in just the short space of a week?MARCILIO BROWNE: That was a bit tough, I always struggle with jet leg, so took me like 4 to 5 days I would say, but being home is always amazing, I was just so happy to be back!HOWLING CANARIESWINDSURF: You scored a 4thand a 2ndin the Tenerife and Pozo events, were you happy with your performance on port tack in the Canary Islands?MARCILIO BROWNE: I was super stoked with my Canaries season, especially with Pozo, which I felt like I sailed my best ever, in the single elimination final, that was one of the highlights of my year. Tenerife was fun too, but I could not find a wave in the final VICTORY ROLLWINDSURF: You kicked off the season well with wins in Japan, Chile and Maui, how did it feel to kick off the season with three straight wins?MARCILIO BROWNE: Three straight wins early on felt amazing, it was a confidence booster feeling like my gear was spot on and my training was working.FIRE STILL BURNINGWINDSURF: Are you still feeling as motivated as ever to keep training and competing on the PWA world tour?MARCILIO BROWNE: Yes, I am super motivated to keep working on my weaknesses and keep competing.WINDSURF: Do you ever get bored of sailing at Hookipa or does every session still get you excited?MARCILIO BROWNE: I will never get bored of sailing Hookipa! It is my favourite spot in the world. I love going there each day.WINDSURF: How much does it mean to be part of the Goya Team and to share the energy, the enthusiasm and the passion they have for windsurfing?MARCILIO BROWNE: Being part of the Goya team is incredible; they are very experienced group of people that inspire me each day and provide incredible support. I love the freedom we have within the brand and where the equipment is at right now!Goya WindsurfingThe post MARCILIO BROWNE: RELENTLESS PURSUIT! appeared first on Windsurf Magazine.

    LDERITZ FINALLY DELIVERS!
LDERITZ FINALLY DELIVERS!LDERITZ FINALLY DELIVERS!Pete Davis reports from the windiest day so far in Lderitz this season. After weeks of waiting, Lderitz roared to life with its windiest day of the holding period so far. As the canal switched on, the fleet wasted no time posting some high speed runs, culminating in multiple runs soaring past the 50-knot barrier on the legendary 500-metre course. What began as a cautiously optimistic morning quickly turned into one of the standout speed days of the season so farand one that proved, yet again, why Lderitz remains the worlds ultimate arena for speed sailing.Pet Davis: The 23rd of November was forecast to be the windiest day of the month so far here in Lderitz and it did not disappoint. The riders were all on site early and rigged ready for skippers meeting at 11am and the wind started to kick in at 12 oclock. The wind wasnt too strong early on, but some impressive speeds were posted. The early leader was Vincent Valkenaers (BEL) who went over 45 knots 500m with a very promising peak of almost 50 knots. He was soon joined by both Cedric Bordes and Antoine Albeau (FRA) and Gunnar Asmussen (GER) all posting runs well in excess of 45 knots but no one hitting 50 knot peaks! At this point and people were beginning to think that the day was not going to happen. The girls Jenna Gibson (GBR) and Heidi Ulrich (SWI) who normally do well in the light winds were also struggling and posted runs in the high 30s low 40 knot range. Then just before 4 oclock, when everyone thought the day was not going to happen the wind moved up quite a few gears and started blowing in the 40 to 45 knot range and the elusive 50 knots 500 was quickly broken first by Gunnar, then Vincent shortly after.CRASH The riders where then given a reality check when Cedric had a massive crash breaking his mast in three places and even snapped his extension. Luckily for him he was not seriously injured. All he remembers was spinning out and then seeing light, dark, light, dark, light!Being the true professional he got back to the starting area rigged another sail and went straight back down the canal. It obviously did not put off his French teammate either, as Antoine who then went and broke the 51 knot barrier over the 500m course. That was the fasted run of the day!JENNA GIBSONJenna was really on form in the stronger winds and went over 46 knots twice with a fastest run of 46.31 knots and a peak speed of 48 knots. This Speed wouldve beaten the previous record holders Heidis record from a few years back. And on the day she was almost 2 knots ahead of Heidis top speeds. All in all, it was a very good day for the speed specialists, which was well deserved after the long wait this year! It proved once again that Lderitz is still the fastest place to speed sail on the planet!Antoines work with the Zephyr Project to achieve such speeds in much lighter winds than we have in the past is obviously paying off. For example, On quite a few runs, he was experimenting with an aerodynamic helmet designed to cut down wind resistance once he was in the 50+knotrange!With more wind forecast for tomorrow, (Monday) and still a week to go organisers and competitors are still hopeful that big recordscanbebroken! The post LDERITZ FINALLY DELIVERS! appeared first on Windsurf Magazine.

Reed Chillcheater Tuiliq December 2025 issue
www.chillcheater.comBy Penny Storey, East Coast Sea Kayak ClubReed Chillcheater TuiliqI first put the Reed Chillcheater Tuiliq through its paces on a bitter March day at an Irish lake. With temperatures in the low single digits and a biting Easterly wind slicing across the water, it wasnt exactly ideal for paddling, but the perfect conditions to test this piece of kit.Getting changed on a public slip is never elegant, but despite the snug-fitting neck and hood, the Tuiliq was easier to get into than expected a benefit of being in gear made to mymeasurements. Once on, it felt reassuringly tight at the wrists and face, but loose enough through the body to move freely with no excess fabric flapping about.First Impressions: Cuts the Wind DeadThe most immediate benefit was how completely it shut out the wind. The chill in the air was real, but I stopped losing heat the moment I had it on. Worn over just a base layer and light mid-layer, I was warm within minutes. The fabric is light, flexible, and unrestrictive it quickly fades into the background as you paddle. I started with the hood up and lowered it easily once Id warmed up.Rolling Test: Where It ShinesThe real test came during a rolling tutorial. Id only recently found a roll mainly in the comfort of a heated pool so I wasnt exactly brimming with confidence about going over in icy water. Id previously relied on a Chillcheater skullcap to take the edge off the cold shock, but the Tuiliq takes things further. Its full neck and head coverage made immersion surprisingly tolerable. The face seal isnt perfect, but I barely noticed any water ingress.Physicalcomfort is a baseline requirement for any kind of performance, and that day the combination of good coaching, the Tuiliqsproperties and design, and a bit of pride sharpened my roll quickly.Versatility: Beyond RollingSince then, Ive worn the Chillcheater Tuiliq in milder conditions with just a rash vest underneath and been equally comfortable. Ive used it under a PFD, but it could serve as a storm cag if needed. Its a versatile, high-performing piece of kit that works across a wide range of paddling scenarios.Pennies StoryAfter many years in a racing shell, Penny made the switch to sea kayaking four years ago. She primarily paddles along Irelands East Coast between Skerries and the Saltees, is developing skills with both Euro blades and Greenland paddles and enjoys every opportunity to get wet.Price: 450.00
