- WWW.WINDSURF.CO.UKLUCAS MELDRUM: THE GOLDEN ERA OF WAVE EDITSLUCAS MELDRUM: THE GOLDEN ERA OF WAVE EDITSLUCAS MELDRUM: THE GOLDEN ERA OF WAVE EDITSBoy have we got a feast of epic videos for you to watch over this Bank Holiday Monday! Over to Lucas Meldrum as he reflects on the rise and fall of the epic wave edit and the shift to bite-sized 1030 second clips. He also revisits some his favourite iconic wave edits from the golden days of YouTube and Vimeo, so hook in and get ready for some epic windsurfing video blockbusters from the past.LUCAS MELDRUM: There was a golden age for windsurfing edits; the late 2000s to early 2020s. DVD films were fading out and the rise of TikTok and Instagram Reels had not yet happened. It was a period where we would wait excitedly for the worlds best riders to drop edits with mind blowing action. Riders would stack clips from a trip or an entire season, cutting the best moments to a full-length soundtrack. If a standout edit dropped, thered be a bit of a buzz at the beach or onlineDid you see that last Brawzinho edit? It was epic! But we dont get much of that anymore. So, what happened? Short-form content has taken over. Instagram and TikTok were instrumental in squeezing video lengths down. 30 or even 10 second action clips are now the norm. We scroll through hundreds of quick clips daily, each blending into the next. They might be exciting in the moment but barely memorable. When was the last time you heard someone say, Remember that sick Brawzinho reel from a couple weeks back? or I rewatched that Philip Koster reel from two years ago, so sick This isnt a dig at Brawzinho or any other pros. The clips are usually pretty sick, with insane action but the sheer volume of non-stop highlights becomes kinda mind numbing.Sure, the view counts look great for sponsors, and many pros are contractually obliged to post. I guess pros are also figuring out its not worth spending hours putting together an edit, or paying someone to, when someone elses Reel filmed on an iPhone gets 10x the views. But the reality? Those views are often just a couple of seconds long. Its quick engagement without real impact.Anyway, why does this matter? Well because windsurfing edits are part of windsurfing culture. Theyre for the core fans. Just like classic windsurf films before them, they inspire and motivate. A great edit makes you feel something inside. I guarantee these edits will make you want to head straight to the water, rewatch it over and over, or at the very least, lift your mood. And thats worth more than hours of doomscrolling through a sea of forgettable reels.Hopefully this can exist as a little celebration and spark some motivation for folks to create meaningful edits that are becoming increasingly scarce Youre probably wondering what is an edit?Well, Ive put together my criteria below:80% action. No underlying messaging or story!Under 10 minutes. (I know some on here are a few seconds over but lets say nothing long enough that you cant watch on your lunch break.)Minimal talking and voice overs. (This would be more a vlog, podcast or film/doc etc.)Has to be a stand-alone edit not an extract from longer video or film Let us know which ones youre favourite and if we missed any mega ones. Maybe well make a part 2 if we get enough requests!Post any comments on our Facebook page! The Monkey Show Ricardo CampelloWest OZ / Philip Koster Northwest Ireland / UmipicturesThis clip comes from several trips to Northwest Ireland. This session is captured as is with no editing. Enjoy! Our Feb's Fish is the latest result of Michael February's never-ending curiosity for exploring new lines through designs shaped by Britt Merrick. Mikey asked Britt for a traditional fish outline but that it have a contemporary engine (modern bottom contours, rocker, etc.) and finely foiled rails so it could be ridden at the highest performance levels possible. During its R&D revisions and refinement, Febs discovered this new fish comfortably covered a wide range of conditions: from dredging tubes in Mainland Mexico, to high lining with ease at Rincon, to effortlessly getting up on rail and hitting tightly arcing turns with full commitment and confidence at places like Jeffrey's Bay and Morocco, to groveling at Emma Wood. It is now a staple board in his travel quiver and is his go-to design when just cruising at home.See more on Feb's Fish hereWatch Mikey February ride his signature fish model here: SPEARFISHMikeyFebsFish Filmed by Sean Lesh0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 753 Просмотры

- CISURFBOARDS.COMWATCH: Barrons New Barrel BoardGoldieBritt Merrick and Barron Mamiya's in-depth review of CI/Barron's new Goldie step-up model that is designed for maximizing barrel time in steep, heavy waves. First ridden to victory by Barron Mamiya at the 2024 Pipe Pro, and again for his 2025 Pipe Pro win, the Goldie has been tested and proven by the team globally to be our best step-up for heavy barrel waves. Its thickness forward, and under the chest, enhances paddling power while a refined, foil that flow out through the tail allows for stability and control when you need it most. More rocker than a Happy Traveler, but less than the CI Pro Step Up, the Goldie maximizes down the line speed and drive. Ridden as a step-up, start using the Goldie at 2 above your shortboard length.STOCK DIMENSIONS: 5'10 x 18 1/4 x 2 3/16 - 24.3L 5'11 x 18 3/8 x 2 1/4 - 25.4L6'0 x 18 5/8 x 2 5/16 - 26.9L6'1 x 18 7/8 x 2 3/8 - 28.4L6'2 x 19 1/8 x 2 7/16 - 29.9L6'3 x 19 1/4 x 2 1/2 - 31.3L6'4 x 19 1/2 x 2 9/16 - 32.9L6'5 x 19 3/4 x 2 5/8 - 34.6L6'6 x 19 7/8 x 2 5/8 - 35.3L6'8 x 20 1/8 x 2 3/4 - 38.3L6'10 x 20 1/2 x 2 7/8 - 41.8LBarron and Britt also discuss the contrast of the CI Pro Step Up, and when/how he decides to ride that model vs his Goldie.Learn more about GoldieScope out CI Pro Step UpAnd compare it to the Happy Traveler0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 757 Просмотры

All new MFC fins.Fluo Yellow Tech-Reveal finish over Carbon and Orange gradient artwork.Francisco Goya & Marcilio BrowneQ&A.The new NITRO is originally scaled up and down by the same magic master for a cohesive feel and look. From there, each size receives manual adjustments, as our human needs dont change exponentially in length or rocker as they do in volume. Thus, a fine balance of math and feel has been created, catering to the conditions we encounter and how we ride them. What is so different from the previous version?FG: Everything started after we finished our new Custom Quads and Thrusters. We couldnt wait to apply the volume and accelerating rail flow to the new Nitro boards, and as we did, it surprised us even more than we expected. It was an instant winner, faster, more maneuverable, opening new angles and speed in areas no previous design could carry us.Is the new generation faster or more turnier than last year?FG: Both boards had to meet the Short, Fast, and Fun guidelines. The new accentuated rail flow not only accelerates the water in marginal conditions but also provides more effortless rail-to-rail agility that only our Custom Pro Models had before. Can you ride a bigger size in this new compact design?FG: The new shapes have more range than ever; as designs improve, so does the range; the new NITRO stands out like no other board has ever done for us.Why use Quad for the smaller sizes and Thrusters for the larger ones? That is how they ride best when the winds are marginal, and we are trying to maximize the low end of the board; a Thruster works best, but as soon as the conditions turn on, nothing can match the Quad feeling on the rail.Did you guys consider having it with 5 Boxes?Yes, shops were asking for this as they wanted to ensure they could have all of the options in one board, but every time we rode a proto with five boxes, we would immediately feel the added weight and the added drag, so it was an easy decision.Being shorter and more compact, is riding more technical, only for the more advanced?FG: This new shape will benefit every rider; you need to know how to water start, and the rest is very intuitive. What about front-side riding?FG: The Custom Quad is the pinnacle for the front side. Down the line, the new NITRO is right behind it, but, at the same time, can excel in everything else, turning onshore conditions into the most fun you have ever had.How about the construction?FG: The new NITROs also benefit from the new reduced and continuous layup, without patches and fillers, and with minimum paint, just enough to seal the vacuumed lamination.Whats been the biggest inspiration for making such a shape?FG: In the early 80s, my brother bought a surfboard from a local shaper in Brazil who had just added three footstraps with resin and a mast truck. We could only use this board when it was + 30 knots, but every time we did, it gave us a glimpse of what was possible; any turn you want it to make, you could, and the board would fit not only inside the car but also in every part of the wave that you could imagine. It has been taking decades to get back to that feeling; the difference now is that we dont need much wind; the opposite now, the new NITROs have the most efficient volume displacement.FG: Can you share some of your feelings on the new Nitros?MB: This is an entirely new thing; it is like nothing I have ever ridden. The previous Quatro SuperMini & NITRO were great, but once we applied all the Custom Quad development and balanced the outlines and volume distribution in this newer compact shape, a new era began in my sailing. This is changing the way I look not only at marginal conditions but also at On-shore riding; now, it is super fun as I have the gear to fly around non-stop while also being able to lay on the rail and in the wave face as hard as I want without fearing that the board will skip or not match the curve of where Im trying to fit. Im also riding these new shapes more at Hookipa and windy Pozo than in the past, where I would only use them on light, marginal onshore winds. This is always the biggest challenge, as there is nothing new in making super-fast and compact waveboards. However, it is different when you enjoy riding them in good conditions.FG: What was the goal for this new line?MB: We wanted to take the NITRO to the next level, as we have done with the Custom Quads. I always dream of having that board that would maximize those challenging On-Shore or Sylt conditions with almost no wind on the inside, with strong currents, and at the same time being overpowered as soon as you are outside, with overhead barreling waves and 12 minutes to put out all that you worked on all year. These new shapes motivate me the most, which means a lot when riding in cold and challenging weather. The post GOYA: NITRO 2 appeared first on Windsurf Magazine.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 458 Просмотры
