    5M WAVE SAIL TEST 2025
5M WAVE SAIL TEST 20255M WAVE SAIL TEST 2025POWER AND PERFORMANCEJames Hardy and his crew rig, ride, and review a selection of the latest 5m wave sails on the market. Whether youre chasing perfect waves, braving fierce winds, or seeking a versatile all-rounder, this years lineup delivers outstanding options for sailors of all levels.TEST EDITOR: JAMES HARDY // SECOND TESTERS: TRIS BEST AND SCOTTY STALLMAN // PHOTOS: OLLIE ROGERS OTC // LOCATION: BRACKLESHAM & OVERCOMBEOVERVIEWThe 5m windsurf wave sail is a pivotal size in the world of wave sailing, where performance and versatility converge. These sails sit at the heart of wave sailing design, offering a perfect blend of power, control, and manoeuvrability. When the breeze kicks in and the waves start to pump, the 5m sail is often the go-to choice for riders looking to unlock the full potential of their skills and equipment. The 5m sail is widely considered the point where wave riding truly comes alive. Larger sails, while powerful in light wind conditions, often feel cumbersome in stronger winds and tight wave situations. Conversely, smaller sails lack the necessary drive in moderate conditions, especially for generating speed to catch waves. The 5m sail strikes a perfect balance; it provides enough power to accelerate through sections and carve deep bottom turns, yet it is also small enough to feel light and agile in the hands. This size gives riders the confidence to engage in radical manoeuvres, from smooth cutbacks to dynamic aerials, even as the wind picks up.When the conditions turn on, the 5m sail shines as a versatile workhorse. Its size is ideal for winds in the moderate to strong range, making it a staple for many wave sailors in conditions of 20 to 25 knots. The sails balance of power and control means it can handle gusts effectively while still delivering the smooth and predictable handling needed for wave riding. As the wind builds, riders find that the sails smaller surface area minimizes drag and reduces the chance of getting overpowered, allowing for a more comfortable and efficient session. One of the standout characteristics of a 5m wave sail is its agility. Thanks to advancements in sail design and materials, modern 5m sails are incredibly lightweight, with carefully engineered profiles that prioritize ease of use and responsiveness. These features make it possible to throw around the sail with minimal effort, whether initiating a quick gybe, transitioning through a tack, or setting up for a critical wave section. The smaller size also facilitates precision in execution, allowing riders to place their sail exactly where they need it during turns or aerial moves. For wave sailors, a 5m sail is a cornerstone of their quiver. Its size and performance attributes make it indispensable, especially for intermediate to advanced riders who want to push their limits on the waves. Whether youre slicing through a clean bottom turn, launching off a ramp, or laying into a full-speed cutback, the 5m sail empowers you to explore the full spectrum of wave sailing. It truly represents the size where the magic happenspowerful enough to catch and ride waves, yet small enough to allow uninhibited, expressive performance. This years line-up showcases an impressive blend of material and development. The latest sails are engineered to achieve remarkable performance while remaining exceptionally lightweight. Notably, every sail in the test could be categorized based on its ideal use and the rider its best suited for, ensuring you can find the perfect match for your riding style and goals.SUMMARYWithout further ado, lets dive into the best 2025 wave sails on the market. This years selection strikes an impressive balance between price point and performance, offering something for every riders needs. For those seeking a lightweight, playful feel, the GUNSAILS, SEAL stands out. Its compact handling allows riders to engage dynamically with the face of a wave while maintaining excellent control, not to mention its very competitive price tag. A dependable all-rounder, the GA Manic retains its familiar shape, feel, and outline from previous years, making it a reliable choice for various conditions. Its adaptability ensures it remains a team favourite. With an ability to handle the upper end when conditions turn on with have the NeilPryde Combat HD and Point 7 Salt Pro. Both able to hold their shape and remain stable to allow the rider to still ride even when conditions turn wild on the water. Wrapping performance and control into a lively package with have the Severne Blade, delivering an attacking nature when the rider wants it, but it can just as easily deliver a calm, controlled ride when you need it. With a forward drive that will help push any board up to speed we have the Simmer Blacktip. Completely redesigned for 2025, the Blacktips ease of use makes high-level performance accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level. Finally, we have the Duotone Super_Hero D-Lab and Goya Banzai 11 Pro Carbon, which are both performance sails that deliver exceptional lightweight design and wave-riding capability. Both sails are easy to use and equally impressive in their own right.THE LINEUPDuotone Super_Hero D-LAB 5MGA Manic 5mGoya Banzai 11 Pro Carbon 5mGUNSAILS SEAL 4.7mNeilPryde Combat HD 5mPoint 7 Salt Pro 5mSimmer Blacktip 5mSeverne Blade 5mThe post 5M WAVE SAIL TEST 2025 appeared first on Windsurf Magazine.

    RUX 70L waterproof duffel bag
Words: Emma Love www.wotbikinipaddleboarding.co.ukWhen I first saw the RUX 70L waterproof duffel bag/bin, my initial thought was, What a load of faff!It has straps, bars, clips, a roll-back top, and a QR code to scan for tips, tricks, and product care. Plus, instructions on how to put it all together! As a SUP coach, my days are filled with paddleboarding faff and any additional, well, I try my best to avoid as much as possible.Slightly heavy-hearted, I grabbed a cuppa and sat down to watch their (and what turned out to be upbeat and fun) short films explaining the various uses, combos, and creative approaches to their designs. And you know what? It is a pretty cool set-up!RUX was founded in 2019 on the west coast of British Columbia,Canada, by industrial designer Tony Richardson and entrepreneurs Andre Charland and Jamie Bond.Their aim? To create a system that can carry and protect all their adventure gear and be a great storage solution. The RUX 70L is designed to be multi-functional, weatherproof, tough, easy to use and carry.Plus, and this is the bit that is especially appealing, they offer a repair service.I love that they do not want your RUX to end up in a landfill! The SUP world does not have the best of records when it comes to sustainability. So, this repair service along with its lifetime guarantee is especially appealing. The 70L is RUXs bag. It is made from aircraft-industrial-grade TPU-coated 840D nylon and has a load limit of 50 lbs (22.6 kg).The material feels slightly silky and is nice to the touch. With reinforced carry straps, you can use it as a rucksack or a holdall just by changing their length. No need for these? You can remove them and use the grab handles instead. When empty, it compresses to just 8 cm tall and weighs 2.4kg.Access to the interior super easyThe lid is tri-fold, or you can roll it up in laymans terms.Taking the top off requires a quick pull on a neat, easy-to-use bungee system. Leave it on, and you will have the option to roll it partially open. This makes access to the interior super easy when out on your SUP or canoe. The top is strong enough to be used as a table or to stand on when getting changed.Nice! The designers have created a design you can use when camping, overnighting or heading out for a days adventure.I like the secure lash points on the bags exterior; its a great way to stop it from moving around in the back of your vehicle. Or, you can opt for RUX utility hooks and hang it on the wall of your garage or inside your van. While submersion in water will not protect your gear (so smaller dry bags will need to be ready), there is an option to buy their version of a bucket-styled dry bag, which is easily attachable to the interior to stop it moving about.Utility straps (inspired by the ski world) can be purchased for an easy attachment to the RUX 70L if wanting to take it out on the water.Available in three colours:green, black, and a nice burnt orange the latter of which I love. Smaller bags can be added to the outside or inside using a very cool clip system.Price-wise, the 70L is 244.00, the RUX pocket is 37.00, and the interior bag is another 66.00. The grand total is a hefty 347.00, and yes, like me, it might just make your eyes water. But lets face facts: with a lot of sub-standard gear flooding onto the paddling market in recent years, our contribution to landfills is not something we can be proud of. Investing in the multifunctional RUX might be the wisest choice for not only all our adventure needs but also for the planet!Thank you to members from CAKE with Wotbikini for participating in the photo shoot.Price: 299Info:https://rux.life/products/rux-70l

Helly Hansen Womens Odin 9 Worlds Infinity Shell Jacket
Words: Hannah SteedsPhotos: Robert CarrollA good waterproof jacket. I can hear my mother and, indeed, her mother preach. What everybody living within the British Isles requires; we could even go as far as saying a necessity. But unlike the unpredictable British and Irish weather, the Helly Hansen Odin Infinity Shell Jacket is reliable. The fully taped and welded seams ensure that any precipitation will remain external, with absolutely no risk of it seeping through. The Helly Technical Professional range is their most advanced range, and this jacket certainly earned its place in this category. The high-rise front zip, up along the entire collar, aids the barrier between yourself and the elements. The hood is also exceptionally designed, with a cap-like peak to keep the water out yet not obstruct visibility (apparently, it can be worn over a helmet). The adjustable cuffs also help keep the water out and allow flexibility if you wear layers or gloves. Its not just the waterproof elements of the jacket that I like (admittedly, though, that is the most important)! Its the attention to detail that Helly Hansen has delivered with the Infinity Shell Jacket. The two double-zipped pockets allow for them to be opened and closed at either the top or bottom end. The pockets are large and roomy, with plenty of space for the stupidly large, modern-day mobile phone. An additional lined second pocket of soft cloth material within these gives your hands added warmth on those fresher days. Theres a single chest pocket for smaller items, such as a compass.Warmer, muggier daysFor those warmer, muggier days, the vent zippers underneath the arms allow for ventilation. Likewise, these can also be opened from the top or bottom. The fitted waist on the womens jacket gives a flattering fit none of that bin-bag look that some waterproof coats give. Perhaps slightly on the vain side, but I also really like the colour schemes these jackets are available in; I have the grey, which has a cool, crisp sheen. The jacket weighs 500 grams, and given its high technical grade, half a kilogram isnt too bad. I certainly didnt notice it at the bottom of my rucksack when the sun eventually appeared. The jacket is also fitted with RECCO technology, which may give some peace of mind during more challenging adventures. For those of you with a green conscience, the Infinity Shell Jackets membrane, which gives it long-lasting water-repellent performance, is achieved without the use of chemicals. Its impregnated with polyfluorinated chemical (PFC)-free, durable water-repellant (DWR). Its a blue design product, so its designed with minimum impact on people and the environment, and its manufacture is done responsibly. The negatives?Although it is stated for wet, cold, and windy conditions, I think Id prefer something a little thicker for those colder days. The adjustable features (cuffs, hem, and hood) do, however, make it easy to add a fleece or base layer underneath. Not all waterproofs are as good as others, and generally, I have found the pricier ones withstand the most rain and last the longest. I guess the price tag for the Infinity Shell Jacket is probably at the upper end of most peoples budget, but the fact that this coat should never need to be reproofed is a lifelong investment. I think the female generations in my family would be happy with that.Price: 550http://www.hellyhansen.com/en_gb/w-odin-9-world-infinity-shell-jacket-62749
