BETWEEN THE FINALS: ANTOINE MARTINS DOUBLE PUSH LOOP GLORY!
BETWEEN THE FINALS: ANTOINE MARTINS DOUBLE PUSH LOOP GLORY!BETWEEN THE FINALS: ANTOINE MARTINS DOUBLE PUSH LOOP GLORY!With the womens final over and the mens final still to come, Antoine Martin knew the crowd would be watching so he grabbed his helmet and headed out to put on a show. The conditions were nuking and what followed was fifteen minutes of mayhem as Antoine decided to go for some crazy double push loops. We caught up with Antoine to find the story behind this crazy push loop mission! Was that the plan, with all the crowd there, or was it a spontaneous decision?ANTOINE MARTIN: Yeah, it was kind of planned during the day because I thought it would be a good opportunity. Ive done my first triple push loop here quite some time ago, so I wanted to try another one.I was like, OK, thats the day. I knew the organisation had safety cover, so sometimes its just better than trying randomly in a random session. I also knew some cameraman friends were there to film the thing! So, it was kind of planned, and I did it between the final breaks because thats where we had the most time in the good conditions. I felt like that was the moment.WINDSURF: So, what did you go for first?ANTOINE MARTIN: I went for a double push loop because the conditions werent quite perfect for the triple. You need really perfect conditions for that and once somethings wrong, its not the kind of move you want to jeopardise if the conditions arent right. So, I went for a double pushy. The crowd was happy and I was super stoked, I could hear the crowd were up for more!WINDSURF: Did you land it?ANTOINE MARTIN: No, no, I didnt land it that day. I did land one a couple of years ago, but my goal now is either to land it properly or be the pioneer of this move, so it can help the next generation have this as a new trademark move to do in competition.I feel like its about pushing the sport forward like the push forward. Back then, when Kauli and Boujmaa did it, it was like, Wow, thats impossible! Then suddenly you see them landing it, and more people start doing it. Now its almost a must-do move in competition to get into the top positions!WINDSURF: The conditions looked pretty tricky. How much did that make it harder?ANTOINE MARTIN: Yeah, it was super tricky. Short period, a lot of chop, gusty wind all those factors make it harder to have a proper runway. And thats the key, just being comfortable before you even take off! You have to be in control before you even jump. Then, once youre in the air and super comfortable, you can start spinning normally. But this time it was just too choppy and too weird. I was sending it and also because I was slightly underpowered, I was pushing hard to get the second rotation. Normally you jump higher and kind of let the rotation happen.I was on a 3.5m!WINDSURF: So, it was still pretty windy!ANTOINE MARTIN: Yeah, yeah! But then the wind dropped. I wish Id been on a 3.7m to try it out.WINDSURF: You were happy with the show you put on, though?ANTOINE MARTIN: Yeah, Im super stoked. I hope there are going to be more shows like this because I feel like people are so, so happy about it. When I came back on the beach, you could see how much they enjoyed it.It would be nice to bring back some more super sessions and get some incentive for that. Now I didnt get any incentiveit was just me and my personal goals! But I wish I had a bit of incentive because, you know, its a lot of risk. That day I could have just had something go wrong and my season would have been done. Im fifth in the world, so I want to keep that ranking!WINDSURF: Is there a particular technique to the double push loop, or is it still something youre figuring out?ANTOINE MARTIN: Yeah, Im slowly developing the technique compared to the first time I tried it. There are many ways, but you do the push loop and then you can choose the angle at which youre going to start the other rotationeither more vertical or more sideways, like a shifty. Its funny because its a double push loop, but the way you start the second rotation can make it go into any kind of rotation.I would say now I need to control the height and the way I push so I dont start spinning too much. Once you start spinning, you have the momentum and its hard to control that momentum. So, Im just trying to find out how to control it.WINDSURF: Well thank you for the show and we hope to see you land a double or triple push loop some time in the future!SEQ 1:SEQ 2:The post BETWEEN THE FINALS: ANTOINE MARTINS DOUBLE PUSH LOOP GLORY! appeared first on Windsurf Magazine Online.
