The water was warm, the sun still had some bite, and West Wittering Jolliffe Road turned into the unofficial headquarters for every wind junkie between Brighton and Portsmouth.By lunchtime, the place looked like a kite and windsurfing convention. Of course, the usual local suspects were shredding as always, but even the big names showed up, kitesurf world champion Aaron Hadlow himself, pro windsurfer Lucas Meldrum, and of course JR local Max Metcalfe, all launching themselves into a bright blue sky.Tiny sails were everywhere: if you didnt have a 3.4 or maybe the 3.7todays heavyweight champion, you were probably sitting on the beach watching. Everyone was out on small waveboards, bouncing, jumping, and grinning like kids on Christmas morning.Out to sea, whitecaps covered the horizon. The wind blew from the west-northwest, classic cross-shore, making for perfectly lined-up waves.
