    LOFTSAILS WAVESCAPE 5M
LOFTSAILS WAVESCAPE 5MLOFTSAILS WAVESCAPE 5M (Catch up test)The Verdict The Loftsails Wavescape offers a welcome balance of power and agility. The Wavescape consistently delivers stable and usable power, which helps the rider to perform at the pace of the wave. Its ability to find power makes it easy for us mere mortals to use, while still flattering the more experienced wave sailor. The LowdownThe Wavescape, in true Loftsails style brings a welcome flash of vibrant colour to the beach, available in two colours: a fuchsia pink or bold green, which we were treated to for the test. Rigged to its recommended settings, guided by the trim diamond on the top panel, the Wavescapes 4-batten outline displays a typical amount of leech fallaway for a 5m wave sail of this outline. The Wavescape does rig a little flatter, but its draft and belly are held discretely as there is plenty of room and flex in the luff tube, which will readily fill with wind once given the opportunity. Loftsails has always prided themselves on their trim reactivity, which has been embedded in their sails since the birth of the company. This trim reactivity remains in the Wavescape, allowing you to softly trim by raising the centre of effort for light winds, or trim a little harder by lowering the centre of effort in stronger winds, which allows you to make the most of conditions. Branded as their down-the-line sail, the Wavescapes makeup, technology and materials are vast. Completely covered in X-ply for added durability, longevity, and stability, the foot and tack are reinforced, ready to cope with whatever you throw at it. The Wavescape comes with two clew eyelets, which allow you to increase both its range and control to maximise the conditions without having to constantly change up or down. Radiating out from the clew, two tendons assist with stabilising the profile, while the Wavescape features a high-visibility window, which extends above the main panel and will assist you with spotting the sections you want to hit. The Wavescape also boasts Loftsails IPS (Integrated Panel Concept) technology, which sees 3-layer head, tack and clew radials extend into the entire X-Ply body for the ultimate resistance in heavy surf. Made for the waves, the Wavescape seems to have a personality that will help you dominate the conditions no matter what you are faced with.Brand Claim Designed for ultimate down-the-line wave expression, the Wavescape combines power on demand with agile handling. Whether youre riding perfect waves or facing gusty winds, this sail is optimised to perform in any conditions.Performance Up on the board and with the rig upright, you will instantly notice the Wavescapes natural ability to hold and deliver power even when the breeze is lacking some substance. The Wavescape always offers you something to work with as you navigate your way through confused waters, whitewater, or simply trying to waddle out to the wind line in cross-off conditions. Supplied with a little extra power from a gust, the Wavescape immediately gets to work, not wasting an ounce of energy as it pulls you onto the plane with relative ease. Planing out as you pick the path of least resistance, the Wavescape is stable and continues to deliver firm, but usable power, while its natural ability to hold and maintain power when the wind drops a tad, still allows you to power through lulls. Meanwhile, in the gusts, the Wavescape doesnt pull you off balance or feel big; it remains poised and stable as it naturally flexes and transforms extra power into additional speed, allowing you to remain focused on the water ahead of you as you eye up the next ramp to send you flying into the air. All-important transitions are made comfortable and timely with its natural pulling power upfront keeping exits of both tacks and gybes efficient and dynamic. In contrast to that, once dialled into the Wavescape, it goes neutral beautifully mid-tack and through certain manoeuvres while riding. Sitting on the crest of a wave, the Wavescape keeps you at the pace of the wave easily with some targeted power control from the rider as you time your drop down the face. The Wavescape maintains a lovely manoeuvrability while riding, especially at speed, moving through the hands nicely. Its power encourages a firm riding style, without being overly aggressive, while its upfront power will help pull you back down the face after a slashy top turn forgiving a potentially untimely smack of the lip for those less experienced. Always remaining firm, but friendly with its power, the Wavescape is a wave sail that not only shows good character in down-the-line conditions, but also in the less glamorous cross-onshore conditions we so often experience.www.loftsails.comVITAL STATSPrice: 629Size: 5mLuff: 418cmBoom: 160-167cmBattens: 4Ideal Mast: 400RDMAvailable Sizes: 3.7, 4.0, 4.2, 4.5, 4.7, 5.0, 5.4, 5.7, 6.2Other Sails in this test:GA Manic 5mDuotone Super_Hero 5mGoya Guru X Pro 5mNorth Wave 4.7mGUNSAILS HORIZON 5mSimmer Black tip 5mPoint 7 Sat Pro 4.7mSeverne Blade 5mBack to test overviewThe post LOFTSAILS WAVESCAPE 5M appeared first on Windsurf Magazine.

    How did SUP begin?
There has been dispute over the origins of SUP for a while now. It has long been thought that SUP, or Hoe hee nalu (to stand, to paddle, to surf), began in the surfing kingdom on the Hawaiian island of Waikiki in the early 1960s.

    DUOTONE S-PACE 7.8M TEST REVIEW 2024
DUOTONE S-PACE 7.8M TEST REVIEW 2024DUOTONE S-PACE 7.8M TEST REVIEW 2024The Verdict The Duotone S-Pace delivers power on tap offering exceptional low-end performance the S-Pace will ensure you are the first one on the water, while others have to sit and wait. In the upper end, it needs a little bit of tuning to maintain its usable power as you enter and exit gybes with devotion. The Lowdown Downhauling with ease, the S-Pace makes rigging a cambered sail simple, youre not left straining at any point during the rigging process. The 3 cams slip on easily, and after quickly tweaking the settings to the tuning marks placed in all the crucial areas of the S-Pace, youre left with a pretty sporty and handsome sail. The S-Pace naturally holds depth down low and then falls away as expected with a rig of this size and intended usage. With 7-battens and a fairly straight luff curve, the S-Pace looks to deliver a nice combination of stability and easy-to-reach power. Its colour scheme is smart, boasting a deep purple up top and down low, complemented by light blue, pink, and white detailing, all of which surround a well-sized window. The luff sleeve is a nice hybrid between what you would expect from a full race-spec sail and a conventional rotational sail, which helps to maintain depth, stability, and a decent draft in the bowels of the S-Pace. The makeup of the S-Pace feels premium; the monofilm up top feels thick and robust, while X-Ply Plus is strategically placed in areas of stress from the very top, along the foot, and up to the clew of the S-Pace, where two clew eye settings are positioned. The upper clew eyelet is marked for Fin Usage and the lower for Foil Usage, adding a dash of versatility to the S-Pace.Brand ClaimThe highly sporty, competitive slalom sail with unbelievable forward pull the S-Pace craves for speed and yet is easy to handle. It carries the racing genes of the warp for unrestricted power delivery, but at the same time the handling is extraordinarily simple for this class.PerformanceInstantly delivering power in abundance, the S-Pace doesnt hang about, letting you know its here and ready to accelerate you onto the plane. The power in the S-Pace is easy to find and requires the rider to react and match the instant power received from any input during the getting-going phase. Out in prime conditions and pinning the sail down while locked into the straps, the S-Pace remains fast and stable, with its 7-batten outline doing a lot of the work, and absorbing the occasional gust for you, while transforming it into extra speed without requiring too much input from the rider. At the bottom end, the S-Pace is the absolute master and will get you going first, while pumping the S-Pace feels natural as the straighter luff curve delivers a nice spring with every pump giving you back as much, if not more, than you put in. Through the gybes, the S-Pace is more manageable the faster you enter, which enables the powerful engine to go light as you slice the rig across. On the exit, you need to be poised and ready for the power as the cams rotate to deliver a bold supply of power. The S-Pace thrives with proactive input from the rider in the gybes and if you do just that it will assist you with full power gybes that wouldnt look out of place on the PWA World Tour. In the upper wind range of the S-Pace, it becomes instantly apparent that you will need to tune the sail by adding extra downhaul and a smidge of outhaul. Its worth noting that the exceptional low-end means you may find yourself tuning for the upper end earlier than expected, however, the S-Pace is not out of its depth in its top end by any means it just desires some proactive input from the rider both on the beach while tuning and on the water as you commit to its bold and powerful personality.www.duotonesports.comDUOTONE S-PACE 7.8M TEST REVIEW 2024VITAL STATSPrice: 979Size: 7.8mLuff: 488cmBoom: 220cmBattens: 7Cams: 3Ideal Mast: 460 SDM PlatinumAvailable sizes: 5.4, 6.0, 6.6, 7.3, 7.8, 8.3, 8.8OTHER SAILS IN THIS TESTGoya Mark 2 7.8mGUNSAILS SPECTRO 7.8mLoftsails Switchblade HD 7.8mNorth FreeRace 7.7mPATRIK GT3 FRC 8mSeverne Mach 7 7.5mBACK TO TEST OVERVIEWThe post DUOTONE S-PACE 7.8M TEST REVIEW 2024 appeared first on Windsurf Magazine.
